Your Gifting, Your Purpose

I speak a lot about our purpose as Christians and the importance of tapping into the purpose God has for our lives. I can’t stress enough the importance of following the path God has for you. That empty feeling, the feeling of running in circles, repeating the same mistakes, repeating the same sins, it all happens because we are not doing what God wants us to do.

As children of God we should not live in spiritual defeat, we should live with purpose and in victory. This can be accomplished if we have the right mindset and focus. Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.”  Meaning, we should live and make decisions based on what is important to God. If we do this we can experience consistent spiritual victory.

How has God gifted you?

“There are different kinds of gifts. But it is the same Holy Spirit who gives them. There are different kinds of work to be done for Him. But the work is for the same Lord." 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (NLV)

In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul describes you and I, the church, as uniquely gifted. God made us different on purpose so that we can come together and help make the church whole. Therefore, every gift and every person is important. No one is insignificant. We work together and exist for the glory of God. Therefore, your gifting means a lot to God and will mean a lot to the people who experience it. That’s a big deal!

Trying to figure out your gifting?  What do you enjoy doing?

Do you have a heart for people? Do you love to teach? Maybe you love to write letters or make phone calls to encourage others. Do you love to sing? Maybe you can join a choir. Do you love to laugh? Share that joy with someone. Do you love cleaning? Numbers? Chemistry? Physics? Sports? Design? Cooking? Baking? Pray and ask God if the “thing” you enjoy most is His purpose for your life. Ask Him is this is your contribution to the growth of the kingdom of God. And if it is, Do it! Do it with faith!  Do it with boldness! And be a light as you do “it”.

Romans 12:6-8 says, "In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly." (NLT)

Keep your mind focused on God and He will confirm your purpose. Living out His purpose for your life will bring you so much joy. You do not have to feel defeated; you can live with spiritual victory because you have purpose.
